Nayanthara’s Struggles: Crying Alone as Rumors Took a Toll on Her Parents

In a candid revelation, renowned actress Nayanthara shared the emotional toll that persistent rumors about her personal life took on her and her family. In her recent Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, she recounts how these false narratives led her to isolate herself and experience deep distress.Nayanthara, often referred to as the “Lady Superstar,” has faced significant scrutiny throughout her career, particularly regarding her relationships. She explained how, during the height of her fame, she would often find herself unaware of the gossip circulating in the media. “In the papers, there would be a piece of news about me, and I wouldn’t even be aware of what happened,” she stated. This constant barrage of misinformation not only affected her mental health but also deeply impacted her parents, who had to endure the public’s harsh judgments alongside their daughter

The actress recalled moments of despair, saying, “I would sit and cry the whole day. I wouldn’t eat anything. I would just lock myself in my room and cry.” The emotional strain was compounded by unsolicited advice directed at her mother from concerned acquaintances, urging her to get Nayanthara married because they believed she was “finished” in her career

Nayanthara also highlighted a troubling double standard in how society views women compared to men in similar situations. She noted that while she faced intense criticism for her relationships—particularly with actor-director Prabhu Deva—her male counterparts were rarely subjected to the same level of scrutiny. “How come none of the boys were asked anything? Why was I the only one questioned?” she pondered, reflecting on the unfair treatment she received

Despite these challenges, Nayanthara emphasized resilience and growth. After taking a break from acting in 2011 due to personal struggles and public backlash, she made a remarkable comeback in 2012 with the film Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum. She encouraged others facing similar difficulties to rise above their challenges: “It’s okay to make mistakes… or just get up and make sure the people who treated you badly feel miserable about themselves”

The documentary not only sheds light on Nayanthara’s struggles but also serves as an inspiring narrative of overcoming adversity in the face of public scrutiny. As she continues to thrive in her career, Nayanthara remains a powerful figure in cinema, advocating for self-acceptance and resilience against societal pressures. This story reflects not only Nayanthara’s personal journey but also raises important questions about gender dynamics in media representation and public perception.
